Service Learning

St. Patrick Catholic School is committed to service-learning for all grade levels.

Service-learning is a teaching and learning strategy that integrates meaningful community service with instruction and reflection to enrich the learning experience, teach civic responsibility, and strengthen the communities.

Service-learning supports our mission to give students meaningful opportunities for service that not only engages the heart but also the mind. Each grade level learns about a social justice issue and then supports an organization related to the issue throughout the year. Lessons and activities are developed that enhance understanding of the organization’s mission and then students reflect on the service experience in light of Catholic SocialTeachings and Gospel values.

Service-learning organizations and social justice issues covered include:

• St. Vincent de Paul
• Refugee Outreach with a focus on babies and new life
• The Oscar Romero Center
• Esperanza International Project with a focus on water issues
• Feed My Starving Children
