Required Summer Work

The goal of Summer Work at St. Patrick Catholic School is to keep students engaged in learning over the summer break and avoid the "Summer Slide". “Summer slide” is a loss of learning students experience over the long summer break because they don’t practice essential skills.  We have asked students to complete online work via the IXL Program in both math and language arts. Students received a letter in their final report card envelope with personalized login information.  Students also have a reading log to complete throughout the summer.  Our emphasis is on the total minutes students read not on a specific number of books. Each grade level has different minute requirements detailed in their letter and on the log itself.  While we understand that some children might resist reading during the summer, research shows that, regardless of the form it takes, summer reading leads to academic gains, which support students throughout their lives.
Please click on the grade level in the menu to download all information regarding your student's summer work requirements. Any questions regarding summer work, navigating IXL or getting login credentials should be directed to Isabel Fraga, Assistant Principal of Curriculum and Instruction, at [email protected].
Happy Learning!
