February – Kindness and Goodness

Family Prayers for Kindness and Goodness

MORNING PRAYER

O Infinite God, of life, goodness, and generous

love, I dedicate my heart, my life, to you.

Help me to cherish all human life,

and do the good you want me to do.

Make me a loving example of your generous love,

and a blessing to everyone I see.

May your goodness be fully in us, and in all that we

think, and say and do.

EVENING PRAYER

O God, Mary and Joseph cooperated with you

in the childhood training of Jesus.

May we cooperate with you when we help our friends,

our, enemies, criminals, and everyone in need.

Help us do what we cannot do now.

May we cooperate with you for genuine justice and

peace in all that we think and say and do.

May we with Mary and Joseph follow Jesus, and share

your generous love with all the people of the world.

Colossians 3:12-13

Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, heartfelt compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience, bearing with one another and forgiving one another.

“Do your little bit of good where you are; it's those little bits of good put together that overwhelm the world.”

Desmond Tutu

Luke 6:35-36

But rather, love your enemies and do good to them, and lend expecting nothing back; then your reward will be great and you will be great and you will be children of the Most High, for he himself is kind to the ungrateful and the wicked. Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.

November - Peace

Family Prayer for Peace

In peace, let us beseech the Lord, for the peace that is from above and the salvation of our souls;

for the peace of the whole world and of the holy churches of God and of all people.

For our homes, that they may be holy, and for all our pastors, teachers and leaders;

for our city and country and all who dwell within her borders; for all that travel by land, by air, by water; for all the sick and all who need your pity and protection.

On all, have mercy, and preserve all, O God, by your grace: for to you, O Lord, is due glory, honor, and worship; world without end.

                                                                        Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom

St. Teresa of Calcutta

“We all have the duty to work for peace. But in order to achieve peace, we should learn from Jesus to be meek and humble of heart (Matthew 11:29)

Only humility will lead to unity, and unity will lead to peace.

Let us help one another draw nearer to Jesus to learn to be humble and joyful.

Mother Teresa: In My Own Words, 1910-1997

John 15: 25-27

I have told you this while I am with you. The Advocate, the Holy Spirit that the Father will send in my name – he will teach you everything and remind you of all that I told you. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give it to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid.

For Peace and Justice

Almighty and eternal God,

May your grace enkindle in all of us a love for the many unfortunate people whom poverty and misery reduce to a condition of life unworthy of human beings. Arouse in the hearts of those who call you Father a hunger and thirst for justice and peace, and for fraternal charity in deeds and in truth. Grant, O Lord, peace in our days, peace to souls, peace to families, peace to our country, and peace among nations.

October - Joy

Family Prayer for Joy

Loving Lord, how grateful we are for the many joys in life that you in your grace have bestowed on us in such abundance. Thank you for the simple things in life and those that we so often take for granted – for flowers and food, for mountains and streams, for our senses and the many joys that we gain from seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting and touching.   Thank you for the joy of friends and family, for the sun and rain the seasons and the many phases of the weather that bring such variety, refreshment, warmth and healing. Thank you for the joy of singing praises to You, and thank you Father for the Lord Jesus in whom is the fullness of joy,   Amen

St. Teresa of Calcutta

“Joy is prayer.

Joy is Strength.

Joy is love.

Joy is a net of love with which we can “catch” souls.”

“When I speak of joy, I do not identify it with loud laughter or with noise. This is not true happiness. Sometimes it hides other things.

When I speak of true happiness I refer to an inner and deep peace, which shows itself in our eyes, on our faces, in our attitudes, in our gestures, in our promptness….”

Mother Teresa: In My Own Words, 1910-1997

John 15: 9-11

As the Father loves me, so I love you. Remain in my love. If you keep my commandments, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and remain in his love. I have told you this so that my joy might be in you and your joy might be complete.

September – Love

Family Prayer for Love

Lord Jesus Christ,

I praise and thank you for my family, whom you have given me to cherish.

Surround them with your tender, loving care, teach them to love and serve one another in true affection, and too look after their needs.

I place all of them in your care, knowing that your love for them is greater than my own. Keep us close to one another in this life and conduct us at the last to our true and heavenly home.

Blessed be God for ever. Amen.

St. Teresa of Calcutta

“ Where does love begin?

In our own homes.

When does it begin?

When we pray together.

The family that prays together stays together.”

“Good works are the links that form the chain of love.”

“God has created us so that we do small things with great love.

I believe in that great love, that comes, or should come from our heart,

should start at home: with my family, my neighbors across the street, those right next door.

And this love should then reach everyone.”

Mother Teresa : In My Own Words, 1910-1997

John 15: 9-10, 17

As the Father loves me, so I love you. Remain in my love. If you keep my commandments, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and remain in his love. This I command you, love one another.
